The MediTouch 2 test strips are used together with the MediTouch 2 blood glucose meter to measure the sugar content in the blood on the fingertip, or alternatively on the ball of the hand or forearm in adults. This is a rapid, electrochemical determination of the blood glucose level. The FAD-binding glucose dehydrogenase converts the glucose present in the blood into gluconolactone. The meter measures the current released by this reaction, which is proportional to the blood glucose volume.

The system is intended for external use (in vitro) and can be used for self-administration by people suffering from diabetes or for the monitoring of clinical diabetes control by medically trained personnel.
