Product information "LAVANID® Wound Gel Tube"
LAVANID® Wound Gel is a sterile hydrogel for the effective treatment of acute and chronic wounds. It is characterised by its good tissue compatibility, its moisturising and cleansing effects, and its antiseptic properties.
Hydrogel containing polyhexanide as a preservative for the cleansing and moisturising of chronic and acute wounds
LAVANID® Wound Gel is a sterile hydrogel containing 0.04% polyhexanide, based on Ringer’s solution. Polyhexanide (PHMB) is used here solely as a preservative. The chosen formulation has been shown in experimental and clinical studies to be very well tolerated by tissue. Chronic wounds are generally covered with avital and necrotic tissue and colonised by bacteria. For successful wound management, this overlying layer must be removed, for example by surgical debridement. LAVANID® Wound Gel is used to support this process. LAVANID® wound gel has good flow properties, which is an advantage when applied to wound cavities or pockets.
Advantages
- Good tissue compatibility
- Prevents the reformation of biofilm
- Long-term and pain-free treatment
- LAVANID® WOUND GEL: Good flow properties when applied to wound cavities or pockets
Areas of application
LAVANID® Wound Gel is suitable for the following applications:
- For moisturising, as well as for preservative dressings and wound coverings
- To reduce the formation of new biofilm
- For slow-healing and sensitive wounds
- For burn wounds
- For autolytic debridement
Tissue compatibility
Chronic wounds often exhibit impaired wound healing. It is therefore all the more important to treat such wounds with a preparation that is particularly compatible with tissue. Clinical studies have shown that polyhexanide does not impair the formation of new healthy tissue. Furthermore, no local irritation occurs and application is painless for the patient. Owing to the good tissue compatibility of our products, they are suitable for repeated and long-term wound treatment.

Application
First prepare the wound and cleanse it thoroughly with LAVANID® wound irrigation solution. Then apply LAVANID® Wound Gel / Wound Gel V+ directly to the wound or to a wound dressing (e.g. compresses or dressings) and dress the wound as usual. Preservative dressings reduce the risk of bacteria being spread from the wound into the patient’s surroundings and prevent the entry of bacteria from outside. To ensure optimal moisturisation of the wound, it is recommended to increase the amount of gel as the intervals between dressing changes become longer. If, when changing the dressing, it is found to have adhered to the wound, the dressing must be sufficiently moistened with a rinsing solution (e.g. LAVANID® wound rinsing solution) before removing it.
