The stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) is a dioecious, perennial herb from the nettle family. The simple 30 to 100 cm tall stems bear opposite, elongated, pointed leaves with serrated edges. The leaves and stems are covered with poisonous stinging hairs, whereby the different varieties of stinging nettle burn to different degrees.
Nettles are a nitrogen indicator and grow abundantly on compost heaps, pastures, along fences, on rubble or under bushes; they bear small, egg-shaped nuts as fruit and overwinter with a widely branched, creeping rhizome.
Stinging nettle is one of the herbs that bestselling author Anthony William particularly emphasises. As he rejects the use of alcohol, the tinctures he recommends are made with vegetable glycerine as an extracting agent. We have deliberately decided against glycerine from monocultures such as rapeseed, maize or palm oil. That is why we use vegetable glycerine from organic linseed for our alcohol-free tinctures.
Our alcohol-free nettle liquid is made from fresh wild-collected nettle leaves and prepared into a strong extract immediately after harvesting. Until bottling, the alcohol-free nettle tincture is shaken regularly and left to mature for at least three months.
