Annual mugwort (Latin: Artemisia annua) is, as the name suggests, an annual plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. This herbaceous plant grows to a height of up to 2.5 m and produces a multitude of basket-shaped flower heads with individual yellow flowers.
The aromatic Artemisia annua is native to the Chinese province of Chahar in northern China, where it is known as Quinghao. It is now found as a wild or cultivated plant in all regions of North America and Eurasia with warm summers; Artemisia annua even grows in the desert. In Germany, the annual mugwort is native as a wild plant, particularly on the riverbanks along the Elbe.
The leaves and flowers of Artemisia annua give off a strong, aromatic scent, which is due to their high content of essential oils. The essential oils it contains include, amongst others, alpha-pinene, camphor, limonene, alpha-terpinene, beta-pinene, carene, eucalyptus oil, artemisia ketones, copaene, caryophyllene, menthol and alpha-terpineol. Artemisia annua is also rich in bitter compounds, which clearly demonstrate its relationship to wormwood.
We grow Artemisia annua on our own field in Brandenburg. Sowing, harvesting and processing are 100% carried out in-house by our trained team, ensuring the highest quality standards. The plants are cultivated and processed without the use of chemicals or additives.| Size: | 100g |
