The saltwater algae kelp belongs to the genus of brown algae. Kelp is a rich natural source of minerals and trace elements. Kelp has become famous primarily because of its natural iodine content. Iodine is a vital trace element required for the formation of thyroid hormones. In addition to seaweed, iodine is found in food primarily in crustaceans, plaice, saithe, shrimps, mussels, cod, cod, mackerel, halibut, herring and tuna.
