IODOSORB Ointment is a medical device and actively supports the healing of infected and non-infected chronic wounds. The special formulation helps to remove wound coatings and promote granulation.
Long-term antiseptic effect, combined with an ideally moisturised wound environment. IODOSORB contains a cadexomer iodine matrix that releases iodine continuously and as required. This ensures a reliable antiseptic effect. Studies have shown that the effect of IODOSORB lasts longer than that of conventional PVP iodine1. Not only with methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), but also with other pathogens such as P. aeruginosa. The highly hydrophilic cadexomer matrix in IODOSORB absorbs up to 6 ml of wound exudate per g of cadexomer iodine. The hydrogel formed protects against drying out and creates an ideal moist wound environment. IODOSORB can remain on the wound for up to 3 days - sterile.
Iodosorb ointment is suitable for use on chronic, exuding wounds. The cleansing properties of the ointment reduce the bacterial load in wounds and support rapid healing. Both products continuously release iodine into the wound. Excess wound fluid and cell debris are removed from the wound. Iodosorb takes on a soft gel-like consistency on the wound. The gel formed creates an ideal moist wound healing environment, which accelerates the healing process of the wound - sterile

How to use
IODOSORB Ointment should be used as directed by a doctor or healthcare professional. The ointment is applied directly to the wound, the amount of ointment depending on the size and depth of the wound. After application, the wound is usually covered with a secondary dressing. The frequency of dressing changes and reapplication of the ointment depends on the condition of the wound and the amount of wound exudate. It is important that IODOSORB Ointment is used as part of a comprehensive wound treatment plan that includes regular wound inspections and assessments
When using IODOSORB Ointment, some important instructions should be followed:
- The ointment should not be used in patients who have a known hypersensitivity to iodine or any of the other ingredients.
- It should only be used on pregnant or breastfeeding women after careful consideration of the risk-benefit ratio.
- When applying to large wound areas or over a longer period of time, the iodine level in the blood should be monitored to avoid a possible iodine overload.
- Concomitant use with other topical wound treatment products should be avoided as interactions may occur.
It is important that patients follow the instructions of their healthcare provider when using IODOSORB Ointment and seek immediate medical attention if signs of hypersensitivity or other adverse reactions occur.
Ingredients
- Composition per 1 g: 500 mg cadexomer iodine 9 mg iodine + macrogol + poloxamer.
- The main active ingredient in IODOSORB Ointment is cadexomer iodine, a complex of iodine and a three-dimensional polymer known as cadexomer. Typically, the ointment contains 0.9% elemental iodine in an amount sufficient to provide an antiseptic effect without interfering with wound healing. Cadexomer iodine has the ability to absorb fluid from the wound and release iodine in the process. The iodine released has an antiseptic effect and helps to reduce the bacterial load in the wound. At the same time, the absorption of wound exudate maintains a moist wound environment that is conducive to wound healing
