IODOSORB Ointment, 40 G

Product information "IODOSORB Ointment"

IODOSORB ointment is a medical device that actively supports the healing of infected and non-infected chronic wounds. Its special formulation helps to remove wound debris and promote granulation.

Long-lasting antiseptic action, combined with an optimal moist wound environment. IODOSORB contains a cadexomer-iodine matrix that continuously releases iodine as required. This ensures a reliable antiseptic effect. Studies show that the effect of IODOSORB lasts longer than that of conventional PVP-iodine¹. This applies not only to methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) but also to other pathogens such as P. aeruginosa. The highly hydrophilic cadexomer matrix in IODOSORB absorbs up to 6 ml of wound exudate per gram of cadexomer-iodine. The hydrogel formed protects against drying out and creates an ideal moist wound environment. IODOSORB can remain on the wound for up to 3 days – whilst remaining sterile.

Iodosorb ointment is suitable for use on chronic, exuding wounds. The ointment’s cleansing properties reduce the bacterial load in wounds and promote rapid healing. Both products continuously release iodine into the wound. Excess wound fluid and cellular debris are removed from the wound. Iodosorb takes on a soft, gel-like consistency on the wound. The gel created establishes an ideal moist wound healing environment, which accelerates the wound healing process – sterile.

Directions for use

IODOSORB ointment should be used as directed by a doctor or healthcare professional. The ointment is applied directly to the wound, with the amount used depending on the size and depth of the wound. After application, the wound is usually covered with a secondary dressing. The frequency of dressing changes and reapplication of the ointment depends on the condition of the wound and the amount of wound exudate. It is important that IODOSORB ointment is used as part of a comprehensive wound management plan, which includes regular wound inspections and assessments.

When using IODOSORB ointment, a number of important precautions should be observed:

  • The ointment must not be used in patients with a known hypersensitivity to iodine or any of the other ingredients.
  • It should only be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women after careful consideration of the benefit-risk balance.
  • When applied to large wound areas or over a prolonged period, blood iodine levels should be monitored to avoid potential iodine overload.
  • Concomitant use with other topical wound treatments should be avoided, as interactions may occur.

It is important that patients follow their healthcare professional’s instructions when using IODOSORB ointment and seek immediate medical assistance if they experience any signs of a hypersensitivity reaction or other adverse effects.

Ingredients

  • Composition per 1 g: 500 mg cadexomer iodine 9 mg iodine + macrogol + poloxamer.
  • The main active ingredient in IODOSORB ointment is cadexomer iodine, a complex of iodine and a three-dimensional polymer known as cadexomer. Typically, the ointment contains 0.9% elemental iodine in a quantity sufficient to achieve an antiseptic effect without impairing wound healing. Cadexomer iodine has the ability to absorb fluid from the wound whilst releasing iodine. The released iodine acts as an antiseptic and helps to reduce the bacterial load in the wound. At the same time, the absorption of wound exudate helps to maintain a moist wound environment, which is conducive to wound healing.
