IALURIL® Prefill is indicated for the restoration of the glycosaminoglycan (GAG) layers of the vesical urothelium in cases where the loss of these layers may cause frequent and recurrent symptoms (such as cystitis, etc.)
The urothelium is lined with a layer of polyanionic molecules, consisting predominantly of glycosaminoglycans (GAG), a class of amino sugars that form an impenetrable and neutralising protective barrier against the toxic and irritating substances present in the urine (such as bacteria, microcrystals, proteins, ionic and non-ionic residues, etc.) and prevent their systemic reabsorption.
Of the GAGs that form this protective barrier, chondroitin sulphate and hyaluronic acid play a central role in the barrier’s function.
Qualitative and quantitative fluctuations in these two GAGs at various levels inactivate the barrier effect, thereby causing a range of conditions that may predispose to the occurrence of cystitis of various types (e.g. interstitial cystitis, recurrent cystitis caused by infections, cystitis induced by cancer treatment agents, radiation-induced cystitis, and traumatic cystitis).
IALURIL® Prefill, a balanced combination of sodium hyaluronate, chondroitin sulphate and calcium chloride, can be functionally integrated into the barrier thanks to the action of the calcium chloride, thereby restoring its protective function.
Indications
IALURIL® Prefill is indicated for the restoration of the glycosaminoglycan (GAG) layers of the vesical urothelium in cases where their loss may cause frequent and recurrent symptoms (such as cystitis of various aetiologies).
IALURIL® Prefill is also indicated in cases where the loss of the glycosaminoglycan (GAG) layers is associated with forms of chronic inflammation in which the composition and integrity of these layers are compromised.
