Gall Pharma Zeaxanthin Capsules are a dietary supplement containing 6 mg of the carotenoid zeaxanthin. Zeaxanthin may reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), protects against free radicals and supports visual acuity.
Zeaxanthin is a natural yellow pigment and belongs to the carotenoid group. It is found primarily in sweetcorn and spinach. In the human body, it is found in high concentrations alongside lutein in the retina – concentrated in the macula lutea (yellow spot) – of the eyes. It is thought that these carotenoids absorb high-energy wavelengths of light and protect the eye’s sensitive structures from free radicals.
This carotenoid is beneficial for maintaining eye health and plays a primarily protective role. It is thought that, due to its light-filtering effect, zeaxanthin prevents the formation of free radicals. Free radicals damage the sensitive cells of the eye and thus play a major role in the development of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). A diet rich in zeaxanthin or the use of dietary supplements can increase the levels of this carotenoid in the eye, thereby protecting the eye from harmful influences. As the body cannot produce zeaxanthin itself, it should be supplemented through the daily diet.
