Gall Pharma Yam Root Capsules are a dietary supplement containing 500 mg of yam root extract per capsule. The root has a supportive effect on menstrual and menopausal symptoms and provides important nutrients.

The yam root belongs to the Dioscorea species. The approximately 800 species are mostly native to tropical regions. They are plants with large above-ground tubers or root tubers. They are important starch-rich crops and are very important for nutrition in some countries. They are also a valuable source of steroid compounds from which adrenocortical hormones can be produced.

Dioscorea species contain steroidal sapogenins (diosgenin), alkaloids, resin and tannins in varying amounts. The yam has attracted interest due to its content of diosgenin, a phytosterol that is very similar in structure to the steroid hormones DHEA and progesterone.

DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is an endogenous hormone that is produced in the adrenal glands, but its content decreases with increasing age. It has been established that there is a connection between low DHEA levels and ageing and the typical symptoms of old age.
