Vitamin B2 (also: riboflavin) belongs to the group of water-soluble vitamins. Like all other vitamins in the B group, vitamin B2 is not stored in the body, but must be supplied regularly through food or additional supplementation. It is involved in numerous reactions in the human organism. As a coenzyme, riboflavin is an important component of enzymes involved in energy metabolism. In addition, this vitamin is also involved in the metabolism of fatty and amino acids, the metabolism of other B vitamins (folic acid, niacin and vitamin B6) and in detoxification reactions of exogenous substances (e.g. drugs). Vitamin B2 contributes to a normal energy metabolism, to a normal function of the nervous system, to a normal iron metabolism, to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and contributes to the protection of cells against oxidative stress. Riboflavin also contributes to the maintenance of normal mucous membranes, normal red blood cells, normal skin and normal vision
