Olive Leaves + Hawthorn GPH Capsules contain 120 mg hawthorn extract from leaves and flowers with 2.3 mg flavonoids and 265 mg olive leaf extract with at least 30 mg oleuropein in a hard gelatine capsule. The heart and circulation are challenged daily. The heart performs hard labour by pumping blood to supply the body with oxygen and nutrients right down to the last cell, as well as absorbing carbon dioxide and decomposition products. Fatigue, poor performance, tiredness and circulatory problems can be signs of a weak cardiovascular system. Especially in times of increased stress, it can be useful to support the heart and vascular system through nutrition with hawthorn and olive leaves.
- Hawthorn (Crataegus) belongs to the rose family (Rosaceae) and can be found in the temperate zones of the northern hemisphere, but also in the southern hemisphere and in the high mountains of the tropics. Various hawthorn parent plants are used: Crataegus laevigata (two-ribbed hawthorn), Crataegus monogyna (one-ribbed hawthorn), Crataegus pentagyna (five-ribbed hawthorn), Crataegus nigra (dark hawthorn) and Crataegus azarolus (azarol hawthorn). The hawthorn grows as a shrub or tree with hard wood, reaches a height of two to eight metres and is popular for its white flowers. The branches are very thorny, which is why the hawthorn is also known as "Hagedorn" (Middle High German "hag" for thorn bush) and is a popular hedge plant. Hawthorn was first mentioned as a remedy in the European cultural area in the first century AD. It is also a component of traditional Chinese medicine. Its constituents are oligomeric procyanidins and flavonoids, which are found particularly in the flowers. The main components are hyperoside and rutoside, as well as glycosylflavones. Other ingredients are neutral polysaccharides, triterpenes, small amounts of biogenic amines, sterols, aminopurines and phenolcarboxylic acids. The interaction of these ingredients leads on the one hand to increased cardiac output and on the other hand hawthorn dilates the blood vessels, especially the coronary arteries, thus improving the oxygen supply to the heart muscle.
- The olive tree (Olea europaea), also known as the olive tree, from the olive tree family (Oleaceae) is native to the Mediterranean region. Olive cultivation was already widespread during the Roman Empire. The olive tree is an evergreen tree with a gnarled, twisted trunk and a strongly branched, spreading crown. The known ingredients are Secoiridoid glycosides (with the main component oleuropein), triterpenic acids, phenolic compounds, flavonoids and biflavonoids. The comparatively low incidence of cardiovascular disease in Mediterranean countries compared to other countries is due to the consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as the high consumption of olive oil as the main source of fat. The polyphenols contained in the oil and the leaves have been shown to have antioxidant properties on various occasions. Olive leaves have been shown to have antihypertensive, hypoglycaemic and diuretic properties.
