Gall Pharma L-glutamic acid powder is a food supplement made from the amino acid L-glutamic acid. It supports memory and concentration, detoxifies the body and reduces symptoms of fatigue.
L-glutamic acid is enzymatically produced in the organism through the absorption of ammonia. This acid amide can cross the blood-brain barrier and is converted back into L-glutamic acid in the brain. Glutamic acid is an important neurotransmitter (messenger substance) in the central nervous system and is therefore of central importance for learning and memory functions. According to one study, L-glutamic acid is able to increase brain performance and concentration. A daily dose of 600 mg - 1800 mg can lead to an improvement in memory, concentration and a reduction in mental fatigue. In addition to its neurotransmitter function, this amino acid also has a detoxification function. L-glutamic acid enzymatically neutralises the highly neurotoxic ammonia that is constantly formed in the brain metabolism. L-glutamine is the product of this reaction. L-glutamic acid and L-glutamine are energy carriers in the immune system and in the energy metabolism of the muscles. Consumption is therefore particularly recommended for athletes who train intensively. Along with 2 other amino acids, L-glutamine is involved in the formation of glutathione. L-glutathione is one of the most important antioxidants in nature.
- L-glutamic acid is a non-essential amino acid. It can therefore be formed by the body from α-ketoglutaric acid and ammonia by means of an enzyme. L-glutamic acid is a substrate (starting material) for the proteinogenic acid amide L-glutamine. L-glutamic acid is contained in almost all proteins, but especially in seed proteins. The concentration is particularly high in milk (22%), wheat (31%) and maize (18%).
- In the organism, L-glutamic acid plays a central role in the energy and neurotransmitter metabolism of the central nervous system. It also serves to detoxify ammonia in the brain and muscles. It is a component of folic acid, a precursor of gammaaminobutyric acid and, along with aspartic acid, the main component of brain proteins.
