What does GLOUP do and how does it work?
- GLOUP moisturises the mouth and throat. In doing so, GLOUP acts as a lubricant and helps with swallowing solid medicines. The medicines (tablets, powders, capsules) do not need to be crushed, ground or opened before taking them.
- Once it reaches the stomach, GLOUP is broken down by stomach acid into its inactive components. Only then is the medicine released and can be absorbed in the gut. The medicine works HOW it is supposed to work and WHERE it is supposed to work. Not all medicines are suitable for crushing or grinding, and not all capsules should be opened. With GLOUP, you are on the safe side when taking or administering medicines. GLOUP has no effect on the way the medicine works. With GLOUP, the pharmaceutical formulation of the medicine is preserved.
Can crushed or ground tablets, or opened
capsules, also be administered using GLOUP?
- Yes, crushed or ground tablets, or the contents of opened capsules, can also be administered using GLOUP.
- NOTE: Not all medicines are suitable for crushing or grinding, and not all capsules should be opened. Care must be taken to ensure that the medicines to be administered may actually be crushed or ground in a mortar without this leading to a loss of efficacy or undesirable side effects when taken. Please refer to the patient information leaflet or consult your doctor, pharmacist or the manufacturer. As a general rule, crushing or grinding should be avoided.
Can several medicines be taken at the same time using GLOUP
?
- Depending on the size of the medicines and the patient’s ability to swallow, several medicines can also be placed on the spoon at the same time and taken or administered with GLOUP in the manner described.
- NOTE: When taking medicines at the same time, care must be taken to ensure that potential interactions between the medicines do not result in a loss of efficacy or unwanted side effects.
For which patients can GLOUP be used?
- GLOUP is generally suitable for anyone who has difficulty swallowing medication. GLOUP can be used with children from the age of 2. Due to its composition, GLOUP is suitable for people with allergies and diabetics.
- GLOUP must not be used by people who are no longer able to swallow independently.
- Between the ages of 2 and 6, it is recommended that GLOUP be administered a maximum of three times a day to ensure that the total amount of all ingredients remains well below the recommended daily dose for children.

Method of use
- Place the medicine on a tablespoon. Spread GLOUP over the medicine so that it is completely covered. Put the spoon into your mouth and swallow the medicine together with the gel in one go. After taking it, drink some water if necessary.
- Some patients may need to get used to the texture of the gel first, so it may be that taking the medicine with GLOUP does not work straight away the first time. Usually, it becomes easier to take after several attempts. To make it easier to get used to GLOUP, it is advisable to practise initially without any medicine and then to take a maximum of one tablet at a time with GLOUP, rather than several tablets at once.
- Notes: GLOUP is only suitable for taking solid medicines. Due to its composition, GLOUP is suitable for diabetics and people with intolerances. GLOUP® is not suitable for taking effervescent tablets or liquid medicines! Ask your doctor or pharmacist about the effects and side effects!
