The seeds of the grape, Vitis vinifera, are obtained from the press residue, or pomace, from wine production. The grape seeds already have a high OPC content, which can be greatly increased by producing an extract such as grape seed drops. OPC, oligomeric proanthocyanidins, belongs to the flavonols and is also known as an antioxidant. Antioxidants are substances that can inactivate reactive molecules in the organism. Such molecules, also known as radicals, can be produced by an unhealthy lifestyle, diet, cigarette smoke or pollutants from the environment. These free radicals put biological tissue under oxidative stress. This can have a negative effect on healthy body tissue and accelerate its ageing process
