Geranium herb (Geranium robertianum) is known by many names: Whether Ruprechtskraut or stinking stork's bill, it is always the same plant. In fact, the fruit of the cranesbill resembles a small beak. And the plant stinks to boot. Geranium herb can look back on a long tradition: Paracelsus recommended the herb to strengthen the heart and to help with melancholic moods. On a psychological level, geranium herb is indeed considered to be balancing and stabilising. Hildegard von Bingen particularly emphasised its positive properties for skin abrasions and conspicuous skin growths. Geranium herb does indeed have astringent properties. These not only benefit the skin, but also help to firm the bowel movements.
Rinsing the mouth and throat with tincture of geranium herb supports natural cleansing processes and promotes regeneration. Geranium herb also proves useful in repelling insects: mosquitoes and other harmful insects shy away from the peculiar odour of this plant and therefore stay away. Even if insect bites have already occurred, geranium herb also provides support here and removes these toxins from the body. One particularly interesting aspect of the tradition concerns women: According to legend, geranium herb is said to help with an unfulfilled desire to have children by dissolving the mucus heat in the abdomen that blocks fertility. So the "stork" in the name fits even better
