The kola tree produces the popular kola seeds. More precisely, the dried kola seeds, which have been removed from the seed coat, are used. Kola seeds are said to be stimulating as they are rich in purine alkaloids (caffeine, theobromine) and catechin substances (cola tannin). When applied externally, caffeine primarily stimulates blood circulation. The cola seed ointment can therefore be used as a stimulating rub.
