Pater Severin Yam Root + DHEA Drops are an oral dietary supplement containing a natural aqueous/alcoholic extract of yam root with DHEA.
The unique combination of yam extract and DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone acetate) promotes a sense of well-being and energy during the menopause and in later life. DHEA is produced naturally by the body in the adrenal glands. However, this production declines with age, and smoking, stress and being overweight further deplete DHEA levels. In Asia, the yam (Dioscorea villosa) is renowned as a ‘rejuvenating agent’. The yam was originally native to North and Central America but is now found throughout the world in all tropical and temperate regions. Carl von Linné named the yam genus ‘Dioscorea’ in honour of the Greek physician Pedanios Dioscurides. This plant is valued for its high content of diosgenin. This natural substance is similar to the body’s own luteal hormone, progesterone. Consequently, the balancing properties of yam are particularly recognised in the context of women’s health, both during menstruation and in the menopause.
