Rosemary leaves – or rather the rosemary oil they contain – are used as a herbal remedy. They also contain tannins such as rosmarinic acid, bitter compounds and flavonoids. Rosemary essential oil is extracted from the leaves and stems by steam distillation. It is incorporated into ointment bases and helps to relax the muscles, improve mobility and promote good blood circulation. It is beneficial for joints strained by metabolic problems.
