Myrrh (Commiphora molmol), also known as true myrrh, gum resin or red myrrh, belongs to the Burseraceae family. The plant possesses disinfectant and granulation-promoting properties, which are utilised in the treatment of inflammatory conditions of the oral and pharyngeal mucosa. In folk medicine, it is used as a carminative and an expectorant.
