Myrrh (Commiphora molmol), also known as true myrrh, gum myrrh or red myrrh, is a member of the balsam family (Burseraceae). The plant has disinfectant and granulation-promoting properties, which are used to treat inflammatory diseases of the oral and pharyngeal mucosa. In folk medicine it is used as a carminative and as an expectorant.
