Pater Severin Marshmallow Syrup is carefully produced according to an old monastic recipe using genuine marshmallow (Althaea officinalis L.). In traditional folk medicine, marshmallow is said to have soothing properties.
True marshmallow (Althaea officinalis L.) belongs to the mallow family (Malvaceae). The health-promoting effects of marshmallow have been recognised since ancient times. Marshmallow leaves and roots contain mucilage. Because of this mucilage, marshmallow is used to soothe a tickly cough. It is also used to treat inflammation of the mouth and throat, as well as in the gastrointestinal tract.
