The Indian lotus flower is a plant species belonging to the genus Nelumbo in the lotus family (Nelumbonaceae). The active constituents of the lotus flower include alkaloids, fatty acids, tannic acid, linolenic acid and linoleic acid. The herbal remedy is known to lower blood pressure and reduce fever, dilate blood vessels, strengthen the stomach and act as a tonic.
