Lemon balm belongs to the labiate family (Lamiaceae). Lemon balm preparations are mainly used for nervous sleep disorders and functional gastrointestinal complaints. This is due to the calming, antispasmodic and digestive properties of the plant. Lemon balm also contains an important antiviral, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory tannin, rosmarinic acid. Other ingredients are essential oils, flavonoids and bitter substances.
