Common knotweed (Polygonum aviculare L.) is a plant species belonging to the knotweed family (Polygonaceae). Chickweed is primarily credited with astringent properties. It is also a valuable aid for the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat. Externally, common knotweed is primarily used in the form of compresses to aid wound care.
