Violet root, also known as iris root or tooth root, belongs to the iris family (Iridaceae). In addition to an analgesic effect, the root is also said to have an expectorant effect. In folk medicine, preparations from the root are mainly used as an aromatic, expectorant and mucilaginosum for colds. It is also said to have other positive effects on bronchitis, bronchial asthma, circulatory weakness, flatulence, headaches, migraines and inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract.
