Horsetail is used as a diuretic due to its high silicic acid content. Horsetail also has diuretic properties without affecting or altering the electrolyte balance. The herb is also used for rheumatic complaints, chronic coughs and gout. The plant can also be used for gargling and mouthwashes to treat inflammation of the mouth and throat.
