Ononis spinosa (Ononis spinosa L.) is a member of the legume family (Fabaceae). The roots are harvested and dried in autumn. The ingredients of hay root, whose healing properties were already mentioned before Christ, are essential oil, isoflavones, tannins and sitosterol. Hauhechel is said to have antibacterial, diuretic, blood-purifying, diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is therefore used to treat urinary tract infections, cystitis and kidney stones.
