Harpagophytum (Harpagophytum procumbens) belongs to the sesame family (Pedaliaceae). The plant has a positive effect on rheumatism, joint inflammation and arthritis. Harpagosides and other valuable compounds (flavanoids) of the root also have a beneficial effect on the musculoskeletal system, but also on the digestive tract. The plant is thus attributed anti-inflammatory, analgesic and appetite stimulating properties.
