Pater Severin Hamamelis Spray is a dietary supplement for oral use, based on an old monastic recipe. It is made from a 100 per cent aqueous/alcoholic extract of witch hazel leaves.
The plant Hamamelis virginiana L., also known as witch hazel, belongs to the witch hazel family (Hamamelidaceae). The name ‘witch hazel’ comes from the fact that, depending on the weather, this plant can already be in flower in the middle of a bare and cold winter. Witch hazel was first recognised as a medicinal plant by indigenous peoples, who described it as having haemostatic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also said to be beneficial for diarrhoea, which is attributed to its constituents such as tannins (hamamelitannin), flavonoids and essential oils.
