Ginseng (Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer, synonym: Korean ginseng, ‘human root’) belongs to the araliaceae family (Araliaceae). Its constituents include ginsenosides, fatty acids, enzymes, amino acid-like compounds, vitamins A, B1, B2 and C, a small amount of essential oil, minerals and trace elements. Ginseng is said to stimulate the activity of the central nervous system and to enhance concentration and alertness. The root has beneficial effects on the immune system, which leads to increased resilience and greater resistance to stress.
