Echinacea (Echinacea angustifolia) belongs to the Asteraceae family. The active constituents of Echinacea include, amongst others, echinacin, essential oil, resins, bitter principles, phytosterols and echinacoside. Echinacea is used as an immune-boosting agent and to treat febrile illnesses due to its antibacterial and immunostimulant properties.
