The common ground ivy (Aegopodium podagaria), also known as threefoots, belongs to the umbellifer family (Apiaceae). Widespread throughout Europe and known as a weed, it is highly valued in folk medicine. Its ingredients are essential oils, various minerals such as potassium and magnesium, trace elements, vitamins A and C. Goutweed is said to have anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, detoxifying and draining properties, which is why it was once used as a remedy for gout and rheumatism as well as cystitis and springtime fatigue.
