Dost (Origanum vulgare) belongs to the labiate family (Lamiaceae). It contains essential oils such as thymol, carvacrol and p-cymene, as well as tannins and bitter substances. The vitamin C content of the fresh drug is 267.2 mg per 100 g fresh weight. Dostenkraut is known to have a positive effect on diseases and complaints in the respiratory tract, coughs, as an expectorant and for complaints in the gastrointestinal tract, to promote bile production and digestion.
