The cubeb pepper belongs to the pepper family. Cubebs are the fruits of a perennial burdock shrub that grows up to six metres high and is currently grown mainly in Indonesia. The odour of cubeb pepper is slightly reminiscent of turpentine. It is said to have antiseptic properties.
