Comfrey is one of the native wild herbs and has been valued for its regenerative properties since time immemorial. Even the Latin name "Symphytum", which means "growing together", refers to the regenerative power of this plant. Comfrey root contains allantoin, mucilage and tannins. Allantoin stimulates cell growth and tissue renewal, while the mucilage and tannins have an astringent effect. Comfrey ointment is therefore ideal for the care of strained and damaged muscles and joints. Athletes in particular appreciate it after a mishap. Experienced midwives have also recognised the beneficial properties of comfrey for new mothers during the postpartum period.
