Coltsfoot leaves were already used by Dioscorides and Pliny. The area of application is also reflected in the Latin name of coltsfoot - "Tussilago farfara" - "tussis = cough" and "agere/ago" = to lead away". The mucilage and tannins it contains have positive effects on coughs and bronchial complaints, with the mucilage in particular acting as a protective layer over the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract.
