Etocovit soft capsules, 60 ST

Product information "Etocovit soft capsules"

Where does vitamin E occur naturally?

Vitamin E is found in certain amounts in many foods, especially vegetable oils, nuts, wholemeal products and green leafy vegetables. It is generally assumed that it is difficult to absorb high amounts from the normal diet without simultaneously consuming high amounts of fat.
If too little vitamin E is ingested, the body can initially mobilise reserves in the liver to compensate for the deficit. This is why a vitamin E deficiency often only occurs after years of deficiency.
Vitamin E deficiency is often caused by disorders of fat metabolism or liver function. For example, vitamin E can no longer be absorbed from the intestine if the fat metabolism is impaired. Vitamin E deficiency can also occur in premature babies. A nutritional cause, on the other hand, is relatively rare.

What effects of vitamin E have been scientifically investigated?

All forms of vitamin E are effective as antioxidants and as such help to protect the body's cells from oxidative stress.
Antioxidants protect the cells from the influence of harmful molecules, the so-called free radicals, which occur in the metabolism and are partly responsible for the development of many diseases. Antioxidants such as vitamin E can prevent the formation of these free radicals or intercept their harmful effects.

In addition to its antioxidant effect, vitamin E is involved in many different cell biological processes and influences the function of various enzymes.
Due to its antioxidant properties, it is said to have supportive functions in the inhibition of inflammation, in the immune system as well as anti-carcinogenic and neuroprotective effects. In this capacity, it also protects the joints from so-called "oxidative stress".
Many of the factors influenced by vitamin E are associated with the development of vascular diseases (thrombosis, arteriosclerosis), diabetes, chronic inflammation and neurodegenerative diseases. Vitamin E therefore has an overall protective effect in relation to these diseases.

If you have forgotten to take Etocovit:

You can continue to take the preparation at the usual dosage after this interruption.
Do not take a double dose if you have forgotten to take the previous dose.

If you have any further questions about taking Etocovit, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

3. WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS

Etocovit contains soya oil. If you are allergic to RRR-α-tocopherol, soya, peanut or any of the other ingredients of this product listed in section 5, do not take Etocovit.

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Etocovit.
Special care is required when taking Etocovit if you are also taking blood thinners or have a vitamin K deficiency, as high doses of vitamin E can cause a possible increased tendency to bleed. In these cases, blood clotting should be carefully monitored.
Furthermore, certain agents for lowering the cholesterol level (colestyramine), certain laxatives (based on mineral oil), preparations for stomach acidity or stomach ulcers (aluminium hydroxide, sucralfate) as well as iron preparations and the antibiotic neomycin can reduce the absorption of vitamin E. It is therefore advisable to keep an interval of 1-2 hours between taking Etocovit and these preparations.

Taking Etocovit together with other food and drink:

The utilisation of vitamin E in the organism is favourably influenced by the simultaneous intake of dietary fats, so Etocovit should always be taken at the same time as meals.
Etocovit capsules are also suitable for diabetics.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding:

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you suspect you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking Etocovit.
A small amount of natural vitamin E crosses the placenta and passes into breast milk.
The recommended daily intake of vitamin E is 13 mg during pregnancy and 17 mg during breastfeeding.
Due to a lack of sufficient clinical data with higher doses of vitamin E, it is not recommended to take Etocovit during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

HOW SHOULD ETOCOVIT BE STORED?

Do not store above 25 °C. Store the blister pack in the outer carton to protect the contents from light.
Keep out of the reach of children.
Do not use Etocovit after the expiry date stated on the carton or blister pack - "Expiry date". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated.

Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the product if you no longer use it. This will help to protect the environment.
