Product information "Effipro 2.5mg/ml spray for application to the skin, solution for dogs and cats"
EFFIPRO SPRAY for dogs and cats is used to treat flea, tick and hair lice infestations in dogs and cats.

Fields of application

  • Treatment of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides spp.) in dogs and cats.
  • Treatment of tick infestations (Ixodes ricinus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus) in dogs and cats.
  • Treatment of hair lice infestations in dogs (Trichodectes canis) and cats (Felicolasubrostratus). The veterinary medicinal product can be used as part of a treatment plan to control flea allergy dermatitis (FAD).

Insecticidal efficacy against new infestations of adult fleas persists for up to 6 weeks in cats and up to 3 months in dogs, depending on the environment. The veterinary medicinal product has a persistent acaricidal efficacy against ticks of up to 4 weeks, depending on the environment. Contraindications Do not use on sick (systemic diseases, fever...) or recovering animals. Do not use in rabbits, as side effects and even death may result. Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the other ingredients.

Target animal species Dog, cat

Dosage for each species, method and duration of application Spray for application to the skin, solution. Mechanical pump spray for external use only. The pump delivers 0.5 ml (100 ml bottle) of spray per pump unit. Dosage: To moisturise the coat down to the skin, apply 3 to 6 ml per kg body weight (7.5 to 15 mg of active ingredient per kg body weight), depending on hair length. This dose can be achieved with 6 to 12 pump units per kg body weight of the 100 ml bottle. Depending on the hair length, the 100 ml bottle provides 4 to 8 treatments for a 4 kg cat or up to 3 treatments for a 10 kg dog. Method of application: Spray the entire body of the animal from a distance of about 10 to 20 cm. Spray against the direction of the coat and ensure that the entire coat of the animal is wet. Rub the coat, especially on long-haired animals, so that the veterinary product can penetrate the skin. When treating the head region and when treating young or nervous animals, the solution should be sprayed onto the hand (wearing gloves) and massaged into the coat. Allow the coat to air dry. Do not rub dry with a towel.

Properties

The formulation contains a film-forming substance. This makes the coat shiny after one application. Instructions for correct use Treatment plan: For optimal elimination of flea and/or tick infestations, a treatment plan can be drawn up according to the epidemiological conditions on site. As no tolerance studies are available, the minimum waiting time between treatments is 4 weeks. Dog and cat puppies from 2 days of age can be treated safely. Waiting period Not applicable.

Ingredients
Composition: Active ingredients: 2.5 mg water, purified, 2.5 mg 2-propanol, 2.5 mg copovidone, 2.5 mg fipronil.

  • Side effects: If the animal licks the solution, increased salivation may be observed for a short time due to the carrier solution. Rare side effects include temporary skin reactions such as itching or hair loss. In some exceptional cases, increased salivation, reversible neurological symptoms (hypersensitivity, depression, nervous symptoms), vomiting or breathing problems have been observed after use. If you notice any side effects in your animals, especially those not listed in the package leaflet, report them to your vet or pharmacist.
  • Special storage instructions: Highly flammable. Do not store above 25°C. Do not expose to direct sunlight. Keep medicine out of reach of children. Do not use the medicinal product after the expiry date indicated on the bottle.
  • Special warnings: Special warnings for each target species Do not exceed the recommended dose. The veterinary medicinal product must not get into the animal's eyes. Do not spray directly onto skin lesions. The coat of the treated animal should dry in a well-ventilated area. Do not confine the animal in a closed room or carrier until the coat is completely dry. Due to the lack of specific data on tolerance and efficacy in other animal species, it is recommended that the veterinary medicinal product is only used to treat cats and dogs. If the veterinary medicinal product is used as part of a treatment plan for flea allergy dermatitis, monthly applications are recommended for the allergic animal and all other cats and dogs living in the same household. For optimum effectiveness, the animal should not be bathed or shampooed for two days before and after treatment with the veterinary medicine. Bathing or shampooing up to four times in two months has shown no noticeable effect on the residual effect of the veterinary medicinal product. Monthly treatment with the veterinary medicinal product is recommended in the case of frequent shampooing. Treatment of sleeping areas, carpets and upholstered furniture with suitable insecticides maximises the duration of protection against re-infestation. For optimum elimination of the flea problem in a multi-pet household, all dogs and cats should be treated with an authorised insecticide.
  • Special precautions for use on animals: It is important that animals do not lick each other after treatment. Occasionally ticks may be sucked in. Under unfavourable conditions, transmission of infectious diseases can therefore not be completely ruled out. The veterinary medicinal product is not suitable for direct treatment of the environment. Keep the treated animal away from fire or other heat sources and also surfaces for at least 30 minutes and until the coat is completely dry, as the latter can be attacked by the alcoholic spray.
  • Special precautions for the user: This veterinary medicinal product may cause irritation to the mucous membranes and eyes. Therefore, any contact between the veterinary medicinal product and the mouth or eyes should be avoided. Animals or users with known hypersensitivity to insecticides or alcohol should avoid contact with the veterinary medicinal product. Avoid contact with fingers. If the veterinary medicinal product accidentally gets on the skin, it must be washed with soap and water. If the veterinary medicinal product accidentally gets into the eyes, rinse them immediately and thoroughly with water. Avoid direct contact with the application site while it is still wet. Keep children away from the treated animal during this time. It is therefore recommended that animals are not treated during the day but in the early evening. In addition, freshly treated animals should not sleep with their owners, especially children. Only spray the veterinary medicinal product outdoors or in a well-ventilated room. Do not inhale the spray. Do not eat, drink or smoke during application. Wear waterproof (PVC or nitrile) gloves during treatment. It is recommended to wear a waterproof apron to protect clothing. If clothing becomes very wet from the veterinary product, it should be removed and washed. Dispose of gloves after use and wash hands with soap and water. Wash any splashes on the skin immediately with soap and water. If irritation occurs, seek medical advice immediately. People with known sensitivities or asthma may be particularly sensitive to the veterinary medicinal product. Do not use veterinary medicinal product if you have previously observed a reaction to it.
  • Treatment of multiple animals: Good ventilation is particularly important when treating multiple animals. Treat several animals outdoors or avoid an increasing concentration of the spray solution due to evaporating alcohol by removing the animals from the treatment room. Ensure that the room is well ventilated between treatments. Also ensure that the room is well ventilated for drying and, if possible, do not place several freshly treated animals in the same room.
  • Other precautions: Fipronil must not be allowed to enter bodies of water as it can pose a risk to fish and other aquatic organisms. Dogs should not swim for the first two days after treatment. Use during pregnancy, lactation or the laying period Laboratory tests have shown no evidence of teratogenic effects in rats and rabbits. Fipronil is well tolerated by pups after treatment of the nursing mother. No studies have been conducted with the veterinary medicinal product in pregnant or lactating dogs or cats. As the safety of the veterinary medicinal product has not been established, it should only be used after an appropriate risk-benefit assessment by the attending veterinarian. Overdosage The risk of side effects may increase in the event of an overdose. In the event of an overdose, appropriate symptomatic treatment should be initiated.
