Easy and safe removal of ticks - with the help of tick tweezers from Dr Schick

The tick tweezers are medical devices in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2017/745, which obliges the manufacturer to test and document the basic safety and performance requirements of the products, to carry out a clinical evaluation including the risk analysis, to prepare the technical documentation and the declaration of conformity and, in particular, to carry out market surveillance (PMS/PCMF). All literature sources known to us show that the best and easiest way to remove the European tick Ixodes ricinus ("common wood tick") is to twist the tick out.

Tick forceps Ultra surgical steel: This product is suitable for removing ticks from animals due to the firmer gripping pressure. The additional notch with gripper pocket (as on a tick card, for example) allows easy removal of fully engorged ticks (approx. pea-sized). The product is identical to the Ultra tick forceps, but the grippers are made of high-quality medical steel rather than plastic.

Application

Larger parts of the mouthparts (also incorrectly referred to as the "tick head") often tear off and get stuck in the skin. This can be avoided if the tick is twisted out of the skin.

The twisting movement causes the barbs, which are firmly anchored in the skin, to be carefully pulled out.

Simple and safe removal: Grasp the tick close to the skin and slowly twist it out (approx. 2-3 complete rotations).

1. Press the push buttons.
2. Place the forceps on the tick.
3. Slowly remove the tick.
4. Disinfect the tick forceps with 70 % alcohol after use.
5. The bite site should also be disinfected after removing the tick. Early removal of the tick (within 12 hours of the bite) can reduce the risk of infection.

Medical attention should be sought after a tick bite: if there is localised redness (> 5 cm) or swelling at the site of the bite. Symptoms occur such as malaise, headache, fever (similar to a flu-like infection). If the tick could not be completely removed.
