Stinging nettle (Folium Urticae, Herba Urticae)
- The stinging nettle grows to a height of 60 cm to 150 cm and is dioecious, meaning that each plant bears either male or female flowers. In the case of the small stinging nettle, which grows to a height of only 15 cm to 45 cm, each plant has both female and male flowers.
- Effect: Stimulates the body’s overall metabolism and increases urine output. To support the treatment of urinary complaints.
Coriander (Fructus Coriandri)
- Coriander is an annual plant growing to a height of about 60 cm, with pinnate, light-green leaves. The small white to reddish flowers form double umbels. The fruits are brown to straw-yellow, round to spherical and, unlike those of other umbellifers, do not break down into individual fruits. A striking feature is the aromatic smell of the fresh (unripe) fruits, which some people find unpleasant. The ripe, dried fruits, which have a pleasantly spicy aroma, are used.
- Effects: Coriander’s essential oil inhibits bacterial growth, has a mild antispasmodic effect and helps relieve flatulence. Coriander is therefore used to treat a feeling of fullness, mild cramp-like digestive complaints and flatulence, and to stimulate the appetite. When added to medicines and food, it improves their tolerability.
Dandelion (Folium Taraxaci, Radix Taraxaci, Flos Taraxaci and Herba Taraxaci cum radice)
- The dandelion is an extremely adaptable plant; it grows in many types of soil. From March to April, its bright yellow flower heads can be seen in meadows and fields. The young, fresh leaves can also be prepared as a salad or in soup.
- Effect: Dandelion stimulates the kidneys and gallbladder to increase their activity. It is therefore used for disorders of bile flow and dyspeptic complaints as a naturally mild choleretic, diuretic and adjuvant for digestive disorders, particularly in cases of poor fat digestion.
Lemongrass (Folium Citronellae)
- Lemongrass is a cultivated plant; the area of origin of this grass-like or reed-like perennial is thought to be East Asia. It is grown in large parts of tropical Asia and South America for medicinal and culinary purposes. The plant, which grows in clumps, reaches a height of up to one metre and can be harvested three to four times a year. The name derives from the lemon-like scent the grass gives off when crushed. The citral in the essential oil is responsible for the scent and the fruity, tangy flavour.
- Effect: The fresh scent has a refreshing and invigorating effect in cases of tiredness, exhaustion and general weakness. Lemongrass is often used as a flavouring agent.
