- With Dr Jacob’s Vitamin K2 Oil, you are taking oil-based vitamin K2. This allows the fat-soluble vitamin to be absorbed very effectively by the body – even when taken independently of meals. As a long-chain menaquinone-7, vitamin K2 is particularly bioavailable and is optimally absorbed by the body. It also exhibits significantly better stability than vitamin K1 (1–2 hours), with a half-life of approximately 3 days.
- This allows you to benefit fully from the health benefits of vitamin K: vitamin K helps maintain normal bones by, amongst other things, activating osteocalcin (a key protein in bone metabolism). Only activated osteocalcin can actually incorporate calcium into the bones. Osteocalcin is produced with the help of vitamin D3, which acts synergistically and also supports the maintenance of normal bones. Vitamins D3 and K2 should therefore ideally be taken together. Vitamin K2 also activates MGP, a key calcium-binding protein found in the vessel walls and connective tissue. Furthermore, vitamin K2 supports normal blood clotting by facilitating the formation of both clotting factors and anticoagulant factors, particularly protein S.
