Support for anxious dogs
Help your dog cope with difficult situations:
- Loneliness and change
- Thunderstorms and fireworks
- Journeys and visits to the vet
- Car journeys and travelling
Unfamiliar situations or changes that pose no problem for many dogs can, on the other hand, make others feel extremely unsettled. Anxious and sensitive dogs need patient and empathetic care to feel at ease. This also includes positive reinforcement.
Praise and reward your dog for calm and relaxed behaviour. Positive reinforcement can help build trust and show your dog that good things happen when they relax.
You should also provide your dog with a safe haven where they can retreat to when they feel anxious. This could be a dog crate, a blanket in a quiet corner or a basket in a secluded room.
Specialised, tried-and-tested ingredients, which can be diffused into the environment or sprayed on problem areas, can also have a positive effect on creating a relaxed atmosphere and help your pet feel mentally at ease again.
- Valerian has been used for centuries to soothe and relax.
- Substances released into the air that are similar to pheromones – and resemble a calming hormone produced by the mother animal – have a relaxing effect on dogs. This has also been investigated in studies. ¹ ² ³
