Cutimed® Alginate Compresses, sterile (10 x 10 cm), are ideal for heavily exuding wounds. They absorb wound exudate and do not stick to the wound.
Cutimed® Alginate is an alginate derived from natural seaweed, consisting of 20% calcium alginate and 80% sodium alginate. The backing material is a semi-permeable non-woven fabric coated on both sides with natural fibres derived from seaweed. An integrity layer contained within the core of the product gives the dressing improved wet stability.
As the calcium ions in the dressing are exchanged for the sodium ions in the exudate, the alginate transforms into a gel as it absorbs fluid.
Cutimed® Alginate offers very high and rapid absorption and retention capacity, thereby reducing the number of dressing changes and minimising the risk of maceration. Its gel-like consistency allows for easy dressing changes, as fluid remains securely locked within the core. The dressing can be removed in one piece and with minimal discomfort to the patient.
Cutimed® Alginate helps to stop bleeding from wounds with minor bleeding. Thanks to its highly flexible fibres, it adapts to any wound bed and can be easily cut to size.
Indications
Cutimed® Alginate® is suitable for:
- moderately to heavily exuding wounds, such as superficial injuries, cavity wounds, pressure sores, diabetic ulcers, venous/arterial leg ulcers
- Donor sites
- post-operative wounds
- Can also be used with compression therapy
Dressing changes: depending on the patient and the wound condition, but no later than after 7 days. Continuous use should not exceed a total of 30 days.
Properties
- Effective moisture balance: Supports the wound healing process by maintaining a moist wound environment.
- Conforms to the wound bed High: Conforms to the wound bed, thereby minimising the risk of exudate accumulation in cavities whilst supporting wound healing.
- Easy removal: Can be easily removed in one piece without leaving any residue in the wound.
- Supports haemostasis: Haemostatic effect due to haemostatic properties in superficial, lightly bleeding wounds
Dosage form
Wound dressings, sterile
Directions for use
- Wound preparation:Debride the wound if necessary and clean it with sterile saline solution in accordance with established clinical practice. Gently dry the surrounding skin. Select a dressing size suitable for the wound.
- If necessary, trim the dressing (using sterile scissors) or fold it to fit the wound.
- Apply the dressing to the wound bed without allowing it to overlap the surrounding skin. For deep wounds/wound cavities, use an alginate tamponade (2)
- Cover the wound with a secondary dressing and secure it in place, e.g. Fixomull transparent, Hypafix transparent or Cutimed Siltec.
- Removal Carefully remove the secondary dressing, gently peel the Cutimed Alginate away from the wound bed and dispose of it. If the wound appears dry, soak the dressing in sterile saline solution before removal. If necessary, irrigate the wound with a suitable wound irrigation solution before applying a new dressing.
