Chlorhexamed® Forte alcohol-free is a surface-active mouth and throat antiseptic (disinfectant) with a broad spectrum of activity and long-lasting effect against bacterial pathogens, and slightly weaker activity against fungal infections.
Rinsing with Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free effectively treats bacterial infections in the mouth and throat.
Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free is used to treat and prevent bacterial infections in the mouth and throat and is indicated:
- to reduce and prevent bacterial dental plaque
- for the treatment of mild to purulent gum inflammation (gingivitis)
- for the treatment or prevention of infectious diseases of the periodontium and their complications (periodontal diseases)
- for tonsillitis, angina, lateral angina and inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa (pharyngitis)
- for injuries and before and after surgical procedures in the mouth and throat (e.g. before and after tonsil operations and dental surgery), as Chlorhexamed Forte is alcohol-free and supports the healing process
- for aphthous ulcers (painful, inflamed areas of the mucous membrane of the gums, oral cavity or tongue) and inflammation of the oral mucosa such as stomatitis (particularly under dentures) and inflammation of the tongue (glossitis). In cases of severe fungal infection of the oral mucosa (thrush), additional treatment with specialised antifungal agents may occasionally be required
- to eliminate bad breath when normal oral hygiene is not possible and the bad breath is not caused by a stomach condition
- for oral hygiene when normal oral hygiene (brushing teeth) is not possible, e.g. in cases of severe systemic illness and in patients in intensive care
If you do not feel any better, or if your condition has worsened, after 3 weeks, please contact your doctor.

Solution
Directions for use
- Adults: Use the solution twice daily, preferably in the morning and evening after meals.
- Method of use: For use in the mouth. For each use, fill the measuring cap to the mark (10 ml) and swish it around in your mouth for 1 minute (thoroughly moving it between your teeth) or gargle it in your throat. Spit out afterwards – do not swallow or rinse your mouth afterwards. In the event of inflammation of the oral mucosa caused by dentures, the dentures should be soaked in Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free for 15 to 20 minutes at least twice daily after cleaning. Also rinse the mouth as described above. At least 5 minutes before using Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free, brush your teeth and then rinse the mouth thoroughly with water (see section 2: ‘Use of Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free with other medicines’). Particularly when treating inflammatory diseases of the gums (periodontal diseases), it is important to clean the teeth thoroughly before each mouthwash to ensure better adhesion of Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free to the tooth surface and thus effective inhibition of plaque growth (plaque). In cases requiring intensive care or for patients with limited manual dexterity, where active mouth rinsing is not possible, plaque removal can be carried out by brushing with Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free. The solution is ready for use and should therefore be applied undiluted.
- Duration of use: If you do not feel any better, or if your condition worsens, after 3 weeks, consult your doctor.
