Ca-D3-STADA Uno film-coated tablets are a food supplement containing 500 mg of calcium and 1,000 IU (25 μg) of vitamin D3 per film-coated tablet, specifically for women aged 50 and over with postmenopausal bone mineral density loss.

The calcium and vitamin D3 in Ca-D3-STADA Uno help to prevent bone fractures caused by osteoporosis.

Calcium and vitamin D

• Calcium and vitamin D help to reduce the loss of bone mineral density in postmenopausal women. Low bone mineral density is a risk factor for osteoporosis-related fractures. The beneficial effect is observed from an intake of 1,200 mg of calcium and 20 μg of vitamin D3 from all sources (including food), particularly for women aged 50 and over. Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the human body, accounting for approximately 1 kg.
• Calcium is an essential component of tooth and bone tissue; it gives bones their strength. An adequate supply of calcium is therefore the foundation for healthy bones.
• Vitamin D is responsible, amongst other things, for calcium absorption from the gut and for bone mineralisation. Only 10 to 20 per cent of the daily requirement for vitamin D can be met through diet; the remainder, approximately 80 to 90 per cent, is produced by the body itself through the effect of sunlight (specifically UVB radiation) on the skin. In the absence of sun exposure, e.g. during the winter months, sufficient vitamin D production cannot be guaranteed and our body must draw on its reserves. Furthermore, as we age, our ability to produce vitamin D via the skin diminishes.
• Calcium and vitamin D in combination. Our body needs vitamin D to store calcium in the bones. To prevent up to 80 per cent of the calcium we consume from being excreted unused, it is important to take vitamin D at the same time to aid calcium absorption. Without an appropriate additional intake of vitamin D, taking calcium on its own is not very effective in the long term.

Directions for use

• Swallow 1 film-coated tablet daily with a glass of water, without chewing.
• Notes: If taking oral bisphosphonates (e.g. alendronate, ibandronate) at the same time, follow the instructions in the package leaflet regarding taking them in the morning on an empty stomach. Take Ca-D3-STADA no earlier than 30 minutes afterwards.
