- It is used to relieve irritating coughs and to soothe the mucous membrane.
- Gum arabic is a mixture of polysaccharides (long-chain sugar molecules, carbohydrates) and other valuable ingredients. The raw material is collected from the African tree Acacia senegal or related Acacia species and has been used in the food industry for decades. These carbohydrates form a gel (hydrogel) with water, which forms a temporary protective layer on the mucous membranes of the throat, thus reducing irritation of the mucous membranes and the stimulus for a dry cough.
- This effect is supported by the simultaneous moisturising of the mucous membranes. The protective film on the mucous membranes is slowly dissolved by the saliva and swallowed. The gel is not absorbed. The effect is purely mechanical.
Dosage form
Directions for use
- Adults (aged 18 and over): Dissolve the contents of one stick 2-3 times a day in a glass of warm water (approx. 150ml), stir well, leave to swell in the glass for approx. 5 minutes and take in sips.
- Children from the age of 6 and adolescents (up to 18 years): take one stick 1-2 times a day as indicated above.
- Notes: Duration of use: up to 3 days. If symptoms persist or increase (especially sore throat) after 3 days of use, additional advice from a doctor or pharmacist should be sought.
