Blood group test

Product information "Blood group test"
15 blood group systems (AB0, Rhesus and others)

Do you know your own blood group?
Your blood group determines which blood donations you can receive - but did you also know that there are many different blood group systems that provide information about possible transfusions, disease risks and even your origin?
The cerascreen® DNA blood group test uses molecular genetic analysis to analyse your blood group in a saliva sample. You will find out which characteristics you have in 15 different blood group systems, including of course the widespread AB0 system and the rhesus factor.

  • Saliva sample at home - convenient & discreet
  • Analysis of 15 blood group systems, including AB0 and rhesus factor
  • Blood group systems recognised internationally everywhere
  • State-of-the-art DNA analysis in a specialised medical laboratory
  • Result within 2 weeks of sample receipt
The advantages of the DNA blood group test
Your blood group is not just any measured value: among other things, it is crucial for blood donations so that the body accepts the donated blood. Researchers also suspect that people with certain blood groups may be more susceptible to certain diseases.
With the cerascreen® DNA blood group test, you receive a DNA analysis using state-of-the-art biotechnology. You don't have to wait or travel to a clinic. You can take your sample discreetly and conveniently at home. The professional analysis is carried out by a specialised medical laboratory.

Benefit from our expertise: cerascreen® is the market leader for medical sampling and submission kits in Europe with 9 years of experience in the development and evaluation of tests. We have developed more than 50 approved submission test kits (medical devices), analyse around 250,000 samples annually and supply 20 countries.

Your test result
As soon as your sample has been analysed, you will receive your results report via the my cerascreen® app or your user account on our website. You can easily view the report on your smartphone, tablet or computer and read it in printed form if required.
Find out in the laboratory analysis which characteristics you have in 15 different blood group systems. Comprehensive health information explains some of the most important systems and how blood groups can be linked to transfusions and certain disease risks.

Frequently asked questions about blood groups
Why should I test my blood group?
Did you know that blood types are very likely linked to the risk of developing certain diseases? Scientists suspect, for example, that people with blood group 0 have a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and dementia, but are more susceptible to some infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and cholera.
In everyday medical practice, blood groups are particularly important for blood transfusions. When people receive a blood donation, the blood groups must match so that the body does not reject the new blood.

Blood group analyses are also used for ancestry testing. As certain blood groups are particularly common in certain regions and population groups, they can be used to deduce the origin of ancestors.
Important: If the DNA analysis reveals a blood group that may be associated with an increased risk of certain diseases, this does not mean that you will develop this disease! These genetic predispositions are about probabilities and the possibility of problems occurring.

How does the test work?
For the DNA blood group test, you take a small saliva sample from your oral mucosa. The test kit includes a cotton swab with which you place the samples in a sample tube. You then send the saliva samples back to us, where they are analysed in a specialist medical laboratory. The specialised laboratory will carry out complex DNA sequencing. How long the analysis takes depends on the quality of the sample provided - sometimes the laboratory has to repeat the test several times. It can therefore take several weeks before you receive the test result.

What do I need to bear in mind when carrying out the test?
The higher the quality of the sample, the faster and easier the laboratory can analyse it. You can contribute to this by adhering to the following guidelines when taking the sample:

- You should not eat or drink anything for at least half an hour before the sample is taken.
- Do not brush your teeth or use mouthwash or mouth rinse during this time.
- Do not smoke in the half hour before the test is carried out.
- The sample must be stored dry for 24 hours before it is sent off. During this time, the sample dries via the aeration membrane at the bottom of the sample tube.
