The North American cultivated cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) is a robust, hardy herbaceous plant that grows naturally in harsh regions, preferably in raised bogs. It contains numerous bioactive components, some of which have strong antioxidant properties. These include phenolic acids, arbutin, anthocyanins, flavones, flavonoids and organic acids. In particular, their high content of proanthocyanidins (PACs) prevents Escherichia coli (intestinal bacteria) from attaching to the walls of the bladder.
Arbutin, on the other hand, is converted to hydroquinone in the body and excreted from the body via the bladder and urinary tract. This plant substance slows down the growth of troublesome germs. Lingonberry 400 mg Bios capsules are standardised to a PACs content of 1 %
