Bios L-Valine 500 mg capsules are a dietary supplement containing the essential amino acid L-valine.

L-valine is an essential, branched-chain amino acid that the body cannot produce itself. This amino acid is crucial for the synthesis of other amino acids and provides the building blocks for the production of proteins. If no carbohydrates are available, for example due to prolonged periods of hunger or increased physical exertion, L-valine serves as the basis for the production of new glucose. This takes place via gluconeogenesis. In the muscles in particular, L-valine serves to nourish the cells and prevents the premature loss of muscle mass. The breakdown of L-valine provides propionyl-CoA, which plays an important role in the citrate cycle after conversion to succinyl-CoA. The growth hormone somatotropin is also activated by L-valine, which has muscle-building properties.

L-valine is also the precursor for the biosynthesis of pantothenic acid and serves as a starting substance for the synthesis of glutamate, an important messenger substance for the transmission of stimuli and information in the central nervous system. As L-valine is not metabolised in the liver like most amino acids, but directly in the muscle, it has liver-protective properties and contributes to the recovery of this detoxification organ
