Bios L-Valine 500 mg capsules are a dietary supplement containing the essential amino acid L-valine.

L-valine is an essential, branched-chain amino acid that the body cannot produce itself. This amino acid is crucial for the synthesis of other amino acids and provides the building blocks for the production of proteins. When no carbohydrates are available – for example, during prolonged periods of fasting or due to increased physical exertion – L-valine serves as the basis for the production of new glucose. This occurs via gluconeogenesis. Particularly in the muscles, L-valine nourishes the cells and prevents premature loss of muscle mass. The breakdown of L-valine yields propionyl-CoA, which, after conversion to succinyl-CoA, plays an important role in the citric acid cycle. The growth hormone somatotropin is also activated by L-valine, which has muscle-building properties. 

L-valine is also the precursor for the biosynthesis of pantothenic acid and serves as the starting material for the synthesis of glutamate, an important neurotransmitter involved in the transmission of stimuli and information in the central nervous system. As L-valine is metabolised directly in the muscle rather than in the liver, as is the case with most amino acids, it has liver-protective properties and helps this detoxifying organ to recover.
