Bios L-Carnosine 250 mg capsules are a dietary supplement containing the dipeptide L-carnosine. L-carnosine is a multifunctional dipeptide and is a combination of the amino acids beta-alanine and L-histidine.

L-carnosine is an endogenous dipeptide that consists of the two amino acids β-alanine and L-histidine. It is particularly abundant in long-lived and highly stressed cells such as muscle and brain cells, but is also present in the heart, kidneys and liver. Proteins and DNA are destroyed by a process called glycation, in which reactive dicarbonyls are formed through uncontrolled reactions with carbohydrates. Accumulation of these compounds over time is problematic. L-carnosine counteracts this process. Thanks to its chemical structure, this dipeptide can also bind harmful metals and intercept reactive organic substances that are formed during the peroxidation of fatty acids and accelerate ageing processes and their accompanying symptoms.

In a scientific study in which human cells were cultivated in a nutrient medium containing L-carnosine, the survival of these cells was extended from an average of 130 days to 413 days (!). L-carnosine increases the cells' potential ability to divide. As the L-carnosine level in our body decreases with increasing age and plant-based foods contain neither L-carnosine nor β-alanine, a dietary supplement is particularly useful for vegetarians and vegans
