Bios Cysteine 500 mg capsules are a food supplement containing the amino acid L-cysteine. Cysteine is a semi-essential amino acid that plays a key role in the formation and stability of proteins.
Due to its special property of forming disulphide bridges between two molecules, it gives proteins their three-dimensional structure and provides strength. If required, cysteine can be converted into cystine. This is the basic building block of the structure-giving protein keratin, which is mainly found in hair and nails, but also in the skin. Cysteine is not only important for the external appearance - it is also a crucial component of muscles. A sufficient supply of cysteine is therefore essential, especially for athletes. This sulphur-containing amino acid is the biochemical precursor of taurine and hydrogen sulphide. Together with glycine and glutamic acid, cysteine forms the tripeptide glutathione. This is a water-soluble antioxidant and one of the most powerful antioxidant substances in the body. Finally, cysteine can bind heavy metal ions and thus helps the body to eliminate them.
