Bios Cysteine 500 mg capsules are a food supplement containing the amino acid L-cysteine. Cysteine is a semi-essential amino acid that plays a key role in the formation and stability of proteins.
Thanks to its unique ability to form disulphide bonds between two molecules, it gives proteins their three-dimensional structure and ensures their strength. If required, cysteine can be converted into cystine. This is the basic building block of the structural protein keratin, which is found primarily in hair and nails, but also in the skin. Cysteine is not only important for one’s outward appearance – it is also a crucial component of muscles. An adequate supply of cysteine is therefore essential, particularly for athletes. This sulphur-containing amino acid is the biochemical precursor of taurine and hydrogen sulphide. Together with glycine and glutamic acid, cysteine forms the tripeptide glutathione. This is a water-soluble antioxidant and one of the most powerful antioxidant substances in the body. Finally, cysteine can bind heavy metal ions and thus helps the body to eliminate them.
